Saturday, January 31, 2009 Banquet
The annual banquet was another great success. As is tradition, the banquet was held on the Saturday of super bowl weekend, January 31, 2009. All of the members and guests that were present enjoyed the hunting stories and hanging out with fellow hunters.
As usual, the food was incredible, thanks to chef Steve Johnson. This year’s menu featured a variety of venison, moose, elk, turkey, rabbit, pheasant, walleye, and alligator. And as usual, we polished off 4 — ½ barrels of Bud Light.
Despite the economy, we had another great year of generous sponsor donations and door prizes. The Hoyt Alpha Max bow was won by Bruce Nordhagen, and the Beer/Booze/Cooler raffle was won by Jeff Mueller. Rick Rice, Paul Nooyen, and Badgerland archery also helped us give away a PSE Light Speed bow, won by guest Terry Lafferty. Rob Hill of Nature’s Image Taxidermy donated a free head mount again this year, and Gary Powley was fortunate enough to win that drawing.
We also raffled off $2,300 in cash prizes. Those winners were: Mike Metzger – guest ($300), Jeff Olson ($400), Neil Merkes ($400), Kevin Moreland ($400), and Ron Schimmel won twice ($800).
The winning buck entries were: 1st place – Dan Hanson (153), 2nd place – Jimmy Zbignewicz (146 7/8), 3rd place – Gary Merkes (126 4/8), 4th place – Aaron Gross (112 2/8), 5th place – Greg Schweppe (108 6/8), 6th place – Jim Housner (108), and 7th place – Mike Shirmang (106 4/8). Scott Johnson also entered a buck that scored 97 2/8.
Finally, I would like to remind everyone that the dues for next year are due by August 1st, otherwise your membership is forfeited to a new member. The waiting list is ever-growing, so please get your dues paid as soon as possible. Thank you to all of those members that paid for next year at the banquet. Also remember that guest spots for the 2009 banquet are reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis, for $25 each, paid at the door.
